Titus 1:15 “To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. 16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.”

This scripture is so true and very evident. After you are saved and cleansed from your dead conscience to serve the living God you don’t think the same way you did when you were a sinner in the world. I remember as a teenager my friends and I could twist almost every little thing someone would say into something perverted. It was because our minds were defiled. Now I can hear those same things and not think that perverted thought. My mind has been purified – “to the pure, all things are pure.” Now, if I haven’t spent time renewing my mind and talking with God, but rather, looking into worldly things, my mind will go back to those perverted thoughts. Thats why its so important to constantly be renewing your mind with the word (Rom 12:1-2).

The amazing thing is that the same people whose thoughts are totally defiled will “profess to know God.” Have you ever noticed that? I’ve encountered many a person who will smoke, cuss, drink, and stare at women, and then say, “yeah, I believe in Jesus. I’m a christian.” Well, they’ve professed Jesus with their mouth, but they deny Him in the way they live. Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” Now, I don’t see that verse as, “because you love me, you’d better keep my commandments,” but rather, “If you really love me, keeping my commandments will be easy and automatic.” I’ve found that to be true. If you have trouble keeping God’s commandments then just focus on deepening your love for Him and following His commands will be easy and automatic. Praise God!
