Enoch

By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. Heb 11

This is one of the coolest things that happened in the bible.  Here we have a guy who walks close to God and one day God decides to snatch him up.  Its interesting to note that there isn’t much that the bible has to say about this man.  All we know is that he walked with God and pleased God, and that God translated him.

This must have been an incredible man. there is only one other person in the bible that didn’t die and that was the great prophet Elijah.  almost a whole book of the bible was devoted to Elijah, but Enoch’s story was told in only about two verses. Elijah worked great miracles which included parting the jordan river and calling down fire from heaven. Enoch just walked with God. That was it, as far as we know.

But I think that the fact that Enoch walked with God is all God really wanted us to know.  It demonstrates to us God’s desire to have a personal relationship with His creation even all the way back then before Jesus.  This was back before anyone had done anything great for God.

This shows us God’s desire for us.  He really wants to have a personal relationship with His creation.  Why was Enoch so special?  Because Enoch was the one that probably woke up each morning to greet God and thank Him for the great new day that was ahead of him.  I’m sure he would take time away to go in the wilderness just to talk with God and share his heart, and tell God how much he admired His beautiful creation.  I bet Enoch didn’t get wrapped up in the daily drama.  He instead sought to glorify God with every decision that he made.

God was thrilled with Enoch.  I bet God bragged about Enoch like He bragged about Job.  Do you remember what God said about Job? He would say to the devil, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth-a man of complete integrity. He fears God and will have nothing to do with evil.”

God’s a bragger.

Just like a earthly father is thrilled with the son who loves to be with him, God is the same.  Be the type of person that God brags about.  And don’t focus so much on what you do for God, but more on what you do together with God.  God wants to be with you.  He wants you to walk with Him.
