Lord, give me what I want.

Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, you are looking for me, not because you saw miraculous signs but because you ate the loaves and had your fill.” Jn 6:26

Its amazing how many people there are in the world who aren’t concerned with finding the truth.  I recently was on a website where people listed their life goals and one particular goal that many people listed caught my attention: “Find a religion that shares my beliefs.”

This struck me.  Why aren’t more people interested in finding out what the truth is instead of ‘finding a religion that shares [their] beliefs?’  The reason is because many people decide what they like or what they think is right and want someone or something to justify it.  And if something contradicts a strong belief that they have, they don’t consider it, but automatically write it off as wrong.

This is what happened to the people in John chapter 6.  These people developed a liking for Jesus because He fed them, but when He started talking about heavenly truths they backed off.  They thought it was weird.  It didn’t line up with their beliefs and they didn’t even take the time to consider what Jesus was saying.  And these same people who desired to make Jesus the king of their nation because he fed them bread and fish eventually were the people who shouted, “Crucify Him!” at His trial before Pilate.

Many people atre the EXACT same way today.  Have you ever met someone who loved God, but when things didn’t go their way they backed off and maybe even blamed God for what happened?  Or maybe someone prayed, ‘God if you bring my girlfriend back then I’ll serve you,’ or ‘God if you give me this, or do this, or that, then I’ll serve you.’  Have you prayed that?  And what happens if the prayer isn’t answered? Will you not seek the truth because you didn’t get what you want?

We need to be like Job.  Even though he lost his business, his family, and his health, he refused to curse God.  His wife even told him, ‘are you still holding on to the Lord? Just curse God and die!’ Some wife, huh?  And Job did well, and eventually God turned it all around for him.

I’ve made a commitment to the Lord that I will serve Him no matter what.  I’ve also made a commitment to be open to anything that may contradicts my beliefs (inside Christ only).  I’ve also told the Lord that if I live in a cardboard box out side of a grocery store, I’ll still love Him and serve Him.  How could I do anything less for all that He’s done for me?

Are you committed to God?  If you honestly seek the truth you will find the Truth, which is Jesus. If you will then seek Him with all your heart, He will reveal Himself to you.  When you get to know Him you will realize that He is the most incredible person you’ve ever met.  Once you truly realize what He’s done for you, you will cry out to Him and say, “Lord, how could I ever do enough for all you’ve done for me!”  And, indeed, you could never do enough!

When you realize His love for you, you will understand why men throughout the ages have given their lives for Him. And you will desire to do the same as well.
