A banquet during wartime.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Ps 23:5.

Imagine a battle scene where the enemy army arrives with swords and spears and bows and arrows, horses and chariots, and other equipment of war.  The enemy is there to wipe you off the face of the earth, he is there to kill your family and your children, steal all of your goods, and destroy everything that you have worked hard for.  Then imagine the Lord bending back the clouds and stepping down to earth. He sets a table where the battle line is drawn while the enemy is watching. He seats you at the table and commands you to eat and drink. He then dresses Himself with battle armor and proceeds to fight your battle!

This is figurative of what happens spiritually to those who put their complete trust in God, to those who continually dwell in the secret place of the Most High. God not only fights your battles, but mocks your enemies by setting a table of spiritual blessings before you.  Although a fierce battle is drawn against you, you are feasting on peace and love and joy.  You are not afraid of the evil that lurks in the darkness and you are protected from the arrow that flies during the noon sun.  You are safe in the palm of His hand.

This should help us to understand the way God desires us to operate our lives.  God wants to bless us, but He will not share His glory. He wants to show His glory and His power to the world, but He will only do it through a humble vessel.  So if our focus is on simply seeking Him, He will, in turn, richly bless us in every way so He can demonstrate His goodness to the world.
