I used to work at a funeral home. One day, as we were lowering a grave vault into the ground, the ground caved in and the grave vault fell on my foot. It hurt. Grave vaults weigh about 2000 lbs. My foot was pinned under the grave vault and I couldn’t get it loose. A co-worker and I tried frantically to lift it off of my foot, but it didn’t budge a bit. In agony, I prayed, “Jesus, help me!” I looked up at that moment and saw a light bulb go off in my co-worker’s mind. He ran to the truck, grabbed a large bar, and pried my foot out. I was not a little relieved!
This (true) story illustrates a very important truth. Just like I was trapped under that grave vault, we tend to get trapped by things in life. Some people are trapped in alcoholism, some in pornography, some in bitterness, some in anger. We often make decisions in life that start out (seemly) innocent but end up becoming our prison.
We all have done things in our life that become like a grave vault on our foot. God calls these things sin. The bad news is that this sin will condemn us to hell if we continue in it, but the Good News is that God has provided a way for us to be free.
Many years ago, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth to die in our place. We deserved death, but He died for us, as our substitute. But He didn’t stay dead. Three days later He rose from the dead. He is alive TODAY, and because He is alive He has the power to free us from whatever it is that keeps us trapped.
Jesus saved me when I cried in agony over my foot. He also saved me from the bondage of pornography. He can also save you from whatever it is that has power over your life.
Cry out to Jesus. He has promised that WHOEVER CALLS UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED. That means you. Don’t wait. Call upon Him today.
