The Harvest is Plentiful but Laborers are Few

Lately, my prayer has been, “Lord, send forth laborers into your harvest!” As I travel, it never ceases to amaze me just how many people there are in the world. Driving down the highway, vehicles keep coming, each carrying individuals and families. At each city or town that we visit, people are there, living their lives, going about their business. Just in America, people are everywhere! Whether it be on the road, the city street, the beach, or anywhere you can think of, vast amounts of people that need the Lord are there. And this is just in America, which only holds 4.25% of the world’s population! When Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few,” there were at most 300 million people in the world. How much more truth is there to His statement now that the world is teeming with over 7 billion souls! Since such things are true, and knowing that the Judgment is near, we ought to more earnestly pray, “Lord, send forth laborers into your harvest.” This is a prayer that we trust will indeed be answered since our Lord instructed us to pray this way. Who knows if our prayers could be instrumental in bringing about a great harvest before the end comes? And who knows if God will call each one of us to take a greater part in it?

Summer Ministry

As the Summer comes, and as the beaches fill (especially with Covid slowing down), ministry at the boardwalk begins. An evening on the boardwalk often breeds more gospel conversations than a week anywhere else. It’s just that easy. I was especially blessed to have my daughter,  Halle, join me on the boardwalk again. Just having her with me is a great encouragement. She enjoys it and I suspect she is learning a lot as she observes and participates.

Conversations started as soon as our signs were raised and they continued throughout the night. Sometimes single individuals would come up to us, sometimes couples, sometimes groups of friends. Each scenario with different dynamics.

One case that particular sticks out in my mind was the when a young couple engaged with me in conversation. Throughout the conversation they were in awe at what I knew was the providence of God. They had just been talking of spiritual issues that very day—not something they often did. To run across a street preacher later that evening was too much of a ‘coincidence’ for them to ignore. Not only that, but they looked at each other in bewilderment several times as I spoke upon the very issues that they were discussing. It could only be that the Holy Spirit was guiding my mind to the issues that they needed to address. I came away from that conversation hopeful that they would be ‘granted repentance unto life.’

More Travel Ahead

Next week we hit the road again to head across the country. Our plans are to drive out to Wyoming to meet with family, and then back down to Florida to the national conference that our denomination is holding. Also, our daughter Halle will also be participating in a national fine arts competition there. We plan to be back in Maryland mid-August and will likely be sticking around until the baby comes. Please pray with us as we prepare for baby #6 (another boy!) And for continued direction in ministry.

Also pray for our financial needs to continue to be met. We expect to have increased expenses for the next year or so. An increase in giving would be very helpful.

Blessings to you and your family! May the Lord bless you and prosper you in all you do!

  1. Hello Mr. Chaffee. Here lately, my daughter has been contemplating suicide and I fear that her tendencies of self harm have returned. She’s 18. Would you mind to talk to her? Explain to her what the Bible says about suicide and try to help Guide her to God? I would really appreciate it. I don’t wish to bury a child
    Her name is Hannah

This is her number. If you could reach out to her, I’d greatly appreciate it!!
